If you’ve read my past post on what a Brand Session is all about, then you know a well thought out and intentional wardrobe is an essential ingredient for a successful shoot.
But what do you do if you’re at a total loss when it comes to your wardrobe?
In my experience, women struggle with this for a variety of reasons, but here are the top three reasons I run into all the time with my clients…
- They’ve either gained or lost weight, and nothing in their wardrobe fits properly anymore.
- They’ve gone through a life transition of some sort (sometimes it’s just aging and changing body shape) and what used to be their style doesn’t feel like an accurate representation of where they’re at now.
- They’ve never actually consciously considered their wardrobe before, and have no real idea what their style even is.
All three of these are great opportunities to invest in yourself for the long term – to gain a better understanding of your body type (and what looks best on it), your values in relationship to the fashion industry, and a deep dive into how best to showcase your personality in the clothes you wear while taking the demands of your job or business into consideration.
“A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.”

The really beautiful thing about this kind of investment is that what you learn is something you can then go forward with in confidence every time you go shopping… no more hit-or-miss shopping sprees that end in clothes hanging in your closet and never being quite right. No more feeling like the outer you doesn’t match the inner you. You gain the tools to dress confidently in clothing that you look and feel great in. A good stylist will teach you to fish, as they say.
I know so many women whose weight fluctuates and causes them endless frustration in finding the right items that can be worn at more than one point on the scale, or women who have hit a certain age where their former style choices no longer feel like it’s representative of who they are now, or how they feel. We just keep pulling out the same things to wear, unhappy with the choices but at a loss as to how to fix it.
So if any of these reasons resonate – whether or not you’re gearing up for a brand session, consider giving yourself the lifelong gift of a consultation with a really good stylist. Who knows…it may make you want to show yourself off in front of the camera!
