What Makes You So Special?

If you don’t know, how will anyone else?

Competition is brutal. But it’s even more so when you’re just trying to compete as a facsimile of everyone else in your industry. Or worse, if you randomly hop from one thing to another in hopes of getting a bite.

If you don’t know what makes you special in your line of work, how will your potential clients? They have to see a distinct reason why they want to work with you versus the hundreds of other businesses that offer something similar.

It can be fun to explore this, to dive in and bring to light your unique talents, perspectives, and offerings – and share them in a way that speaks directly to the kind of client that would appreciate those very things.

All other things being equal, especially in competitive or oversaturated industries, it often comes down to a potential client connecting to you an a personal level. But if you haven’t shown them who you are, then there’s no connection points to grab on to. The reason you’re in business – your own personal story, might be the thing someone relates to… or the hobby or charity you do in your free time. It might be your particular personality that shines through that makes a client think “yeah – she’s the kind of person who’d understand what I’m about”.

Whatever the connection point is, you need to expose it to the light. Draw your client in by sharing what’s important to you in life and business, with your unique personality, and how and why you understand their pain points…and what you can offer in a way only you can.

One of the best ways to do this quickly (we all know what attention spans are like these days) is through storytelling visuals. Show & Tell. Images of you in different facets of your life and business are rich in opportunity for connection. If you’re a big personality – show it! If you’re more of an introvert but passionate about what you do, show yourself engaged in it and the joy it brings your customers. People want to be able to easily imagine themselves in those shoes. Make it easy for them! Take the work out of it for them!

Images are the fastest way to get someone to stop long enough to read your copy.
